Edit a film yourself in the chamber

Why change it yourself

Small changes are where films usually get stuck. "A little warmer." "Slower at the start." "Can we have it square?" Sent to somebody else, each one is an email, a wait and a new file. In the chamber you make them yourself, see the result at once, and keep going until it feels right.

What you can change

The chamber has a row of tabs beside the film. Each one changes one side of it.

• Colours. Colour sets, the film's own colours, a colour you name, or the colours of a website. Then warmer, cooler, brighter or darker, more colour, softer colour, or black and white.
• Motion. The pace, from Calmer to Much livelier, and the camera: Still, Push in, Pull back, Drift, or Cuts between views.
• Frame. Wide, Square or Tall; the whole picture or the frame filled; Closer or Very close, and where the frame looks. Here you also make the words smaller or bigger.
• Sound. No music, Calm music or Music with a beat, and how loud the music is. If the film has its own sound, such as your voice, you can turn it on or off.
• Cuts. Where the film starts and ends, with two handles, and the list of your saved versions.

On a film that shows its parts, the line under the film says Click any part of the film to change it. Click a line of words, a shape or a picture, and you change only that part: the words in a line, the colour of a shape, where a thing stands, its size, or when it comes in and leaves. A part can also be removed from the film, and put back.

Press As made on the film to see it as it was made, and press it again to see your changes. It is the quickest way to judge whether a change is better.

Or just say it

Under the film is a box. Type what you want in plain words, such as "slower and warmer", "square", "closer", "calm music" or "cut the intro", and press Change. The chamber reads it on your own device, so it costs nothing, and the same sentence always gives the same result. It understands English and Norwegian. If part of what you wrote is not something the chamber can do, it says so rather than guessing.

Undo, versions, and nothing lost

Every change is one step on an Undo list. Undo and Redo sit above the film, and Ctrl Z and Ctrl Shift Z work anywhere on the page outside a text box. Nothing you do in the chamber destroys anything.

When the film looks right, press Save. It is kept as a numbered version, described in plain words, and from then on the film's page, its video file and its transparent file all show that version. Save again later, and that becomes a new version. The list under Cuts holds every one, together with the film as it was made, and you can go back to any of them.

What the chamber does not change

The chamber changes how a film looks and plays, and the parts that are already in it. It does not write a new message, add a new product or record a voice.

For those, write what you want in the same box. On your own film, Nine then offers to make a new version from the same material and your words. That is paid from your credits, the price is shown before it starts, and the film you have is kept. When the new version is ready, it is listed under Cuts and opens as a film of its own.

What it costs

Changing a film in the chamber costs nothing, on every paid plan, as often as you like. Only a new version made by Nine uses credits. And the chamber itself is free to try: the films on our front page open in it with no account, so you can learn it before you have a film of your own.

Two common uses have their own pages: one film as a wide, a tall and a square file, and cutting one film to several lengths.

How to do it in Nine

1. Open your film from Your films and press Edit in the chamber.
2. Pick a tab, Colours, Motion, Frame, Sound or Cuts, and try a change. Or type it in the box under the film.
3. Press As made to compare with how it was made. Use Undo for anything you do not like.
4. Press Save when it looks right. The film and its video file now show this version.
5. Go back to the film's page and press Get the video file.
